First Orthodontic Visit

Welcome to Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics! We know that choosing to improve your oral health with orthodontic treatment is a big decision, and one you don’t make lightly. We’re excited to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted by offering a variety of safe, gentle, and effective treatment options, along with high-quality care you can count on. If you’re not familiar with the orthodontic process, you may not be sure what to expect from your first orthodontic visit or the months ahead. This is normal, and nothing to feel nervous about!

The first step in any orthodontic journey is an initial consultation with an experienced orthodontist. We believe that this initial visit with us one of the most important ones you’ll have. It gives us the chance to get to know each other, perform an oral exam, and discuss any concerns you have about your smile. We appreciate your trust in us and work hard to provide a stress-free environment for all of our patients. Part of that is understanding what happens during your consultation with us. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what you can expect from your first visit!

What happens during an orthodontic evaluation?

When you arrive for your consultation, you’ll be greeted warmly and introduced to some of our team members. We’ll show you around the office a bit before sitting down and going over your medical and dental history. Following this, we’ll take digital photographs, 3D x-rays, and a digital impression of your teeth to give us a better idea of what’s happening beneath the surface of your smile.

Once we’ve collected all the images we need, one of our doctors will perform a thorough oral examination. They will look at your teeth, gums, and mouth, and may ask you if you’ve had any problems with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. The information that we obtain from this visit will give Dr. Farrow and Dr. Dewbre everything they need to make an initial diagnosis and create a customized treatment plan for you that is based on your unique orthodontic needs, your goals, and your lifestyle.

We never want you to feel as though we’re rushing you through your appointments with us, especially this first one! This initial visit will normally last about an hour, which gives us plenty of time to perform the exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. We’ll also go over important topics such as:

  • any oral issues you are experiencing
  • if treatment is recommended right away
  • what treatment options are available to you
  • an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
  • the total investment required for your new smile
  • any payment or financing options we offer

Our practice doesn’t believe in a “cookie-cutter” approach to orthodontics, and we’re proud to provide patients of all ages with individualized care, superior customer service, and exceptional results.

Investing in a healthier smile

After you’ve discussed all your options with one of our doctors and decided on a treatment plan, we’ll look at the total investment needed for your new smile. Because every case is different and each patient responds to treatment in their own way, the total treatment costs will always vary from person to person. Here at Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics, we’ll always ensure you understand exactly what’s included in your treatment plan before moving on to the next part of your orthodontic journey. You’ll never have to worry about hidden treatment costs or service fees!

We believe that everyone should have access to the orthodontic care they need. That’s why we offer affordable treatment options along with flexible financing to fit every budget. We also accept most insurance plans. If you have dental insurance that will cover any portion of your orthodontic treatment, our office staff is always available to help you with claims and paperwork.

What comes next?

After you’ve decided on a treatment plan, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to come in and have your appliance fitted. Depending on whether you’re wearing braces or aligners, you can expect follow-up visits with us every 6-12 weeks or so. During these check-ups, one of our doctors will assess your progress and ensure your teeth are moving in a healthy way. They’ll make any necessary adjustments for braces patients, and may choose to change the wire at this time as well.

These visits are an essential part of the treatment process, so it’s important that you don’t miss them! While we do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, we understand that there may be days when you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for some reason. If this happens, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule your appointment for another day. This will help us keep your treatment plan on track!
