Why Should You Consider Orthodontic Treatment?
Straight Teeth Are Healthy Teeth
When your teeth are correctly aligned, it’s easier to keep them clean by flossing and brushing. This helps prevent other oral issues, including some that can affect your overall health and lead to more serious treatment down the road.
A Straight Smile Builds Confidence & Self-Esteem
Successfully completed orthodontic treatment with Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics can help boost your self-confidence, give you a better quality of life, and allow you to smile freely for what could be the first time ever.
Untreated Oral Issues Will Get Worse
Delaying or refusing orthodontic treatment when you need it can create long-term health issues that will wind up costing you more in the end.
Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics understands that teens, kids and adults will all have different dental needs, requiring different kinds of care and attention.
We’ll work diligently with you to ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment in the most inviting environment.
Orthodontics for Kids
Get a Head Start on a Lifetime of Smiles
As a parent in Western Oklahoma, you want the best for your child. That includes healthy teeth and a beautifully aligned smile.
Dr. Farrow, Dr. Dewbre, and our team at Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics will treat your children like our own by giving them the best possible orthodontic care.
Kids Should See an Orthodontist By 7
By age seven, your child's teeth have developed enough for Dr. Farrow and Dr. Dewbre to detect subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth before all of your child’s baby teeth are lost.
This check-up may reveal that your child's bite is fine, and they won’t require braces.
In some cases, Dr. Farrow or Dr. Dewbre may identify a developing problem but recommend monitoring your child's growth and development, and then, if indicated, begin treatment at the appropriate time for your child.
In other cases, Dr. Farrow or Dr. Dewbre might find a problem that can benefit from early treatment.
What Is Early Treatment?
Early treatment may prevent or intercept more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated.
In some cases, Dr. Farrow and Dr. Dewbre can achieve results that may not be possible once your child’s face and jaws have finished growing.
Choosing the Best Time for Treatment
While the age that kids get braces may vary, orthodontic treatment at Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics most often begins between 9 and 14. Some orthodontic problems are easier to correct if they’re treated early.
If Dr. Farrow or Dr. Dewbre determines that your child will need treatment, they’ll let you know when it will be best to begin treatment. This gives your orthodontist the best chance to:
- Guide jaw growth
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- Correct harmful oral habits
- Improve appearance and self-esteem in your child
- Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
- Create a more pleasing arrangement of teeth, lips and face
Signs the Bite's Not Right
It's not always easy to tell when your child may need braces or has an orthodontic problem. Even teeth that look straight may be hiding a problem bite.
Here are some clues that may indicate the need for orthodontic attention:
- Early or late loss of baby teeth
- Difficulty chewing or biting
- Biting the cheek or biting into the roof of the mouth
- Protruding teeth
- Breathing through the mouth
- Thumb-sucking
- Crowded, misplaced or blocked-out teeth
- Jaws that are too far forward or back
- Upper and lower teeth that don't meet, or meet in an abnormal way
- An unbalanced facial appearance
- Grinding or clenching of the teeth

Orthodontics for Teens
Invest in Your Teenager
The teen years (between the ages of 12 and 16) are the most common time for orthodontic treatment because most permanent teeth are in place.
At Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics, we offer a variety of treatment options that won’t interfere with your teen’s busy schedule.
All About Teen Orthodontics
The teen years are a great age range for experienced orthodontists like Dr. Farrow and Dr. Dewbre to easily recognize spacing issues, crowding, and bite and alignment problems. Your teen’s bone and jaw structure are formed enough to allow orthodontic treatment to begin.
Some teens may have even started Phase I treatment at an earlier age and are now following it up with full braces or other orthodontic treatment.
Benefits of a Straight Smile
Straight teeth that respond well to orthodontic treatment have many benefits, including:
- Less prone to wear and tear, chipping, and tooth trauma
- Easier to keep clean, helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities
- Improving proper chewing and digestion of food
- Reducing the chances of developing gum disease, which can result in bone loss, decay, and tooth loss
Choose Your Look
While creating a customized treatment plan for your teen, your orthodontist might recommend an orthodontic appliance.
Here at Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics, we offer:
Damon Metal Braces
Braces have come a very long way, even within the past decade. When many people think of braces, they think of extremely bulky metal brackets.
The good news is that we don't use this type of bulky orthodontic appliance. At Farrow & Dewbre Orthodontics, we use the Damon metal braces system to make your treatment more comfortable.
Ceramic Braces
Also known as clear braces, these work the same way metal braces do but feature brackets made of tooth-colored ceramic materials.
They blend in with your teen’s smile, so they’re much less obvious. Since ceramic braces may break slightly easier, and are a little more expensive than metal braces, so we may not recommend them for everyone.
Invisalign for Teens®
The Invisalign system is made up of a series of fully customized, clear trays called aligners. These aligners are nearly invisible totally removable, and comfortable to wear.
Made of soft plastic, aligners provide a more comfortable orthodontic experience, with no friction or abrasions inside your teen’s mouth.
Each week your teen will switch their aligner for the next in the set. When your teen wears the aligners for the 20-22 hours per day recommended by Dr. Farrow or Dr. Dewbre, their teeth will gradually move into the desired positions.
Invisalign works best for mild to moderate orthodontic issues, and may not be an option if your teen needs more severe correction.
Watch for Orthodontic Issues
Beyond outward appearances, untreated dental problems can have a lasting impact on your teen’s oral and overall health.
If you notice any of the following issues, we recommend a free consultation with Dr. Farrow or Dr. Dewbre, since they could be signs your teen may benefit from orthodontic treatment.
- Early, late, or irregular loss of their baby teeth
- Jaws and teeth that are out of proportion to the rest of the face
- Difficulty with chewing or biting
- Protruding teeth
- Frequent biting of the cheek or the inside of the mouth
- Teeth that meet abnormally or not at all
- Crowding or extra spacing between teeth
- Jaws that shift or make sounds
Bad Bites
Diagnosing and successfully treating certain bite problems can have short-term and long-term benefits.
Problems classified as “bad bites” can often be minimized with the proper orthodontic treatment, including:
- Missing or extra teeth
- Crooked or crowded teeth
- Incorrect jaw position
- An overbite or underbite
- A disorder of the jaw joint
Make an Investment in Your Teen’s Smile
While adults can successfully complete orthodontic treatment, a teen’s jaws and teeth can respond quicker to orthodontic treatment, shortening their total treatment time.
Orthodontic treatment is an investment in your teen’s future. At your initial consultation, Dr. Farrow and Dr. Dewbre will be happy to discuss the benefits of treatment with both of you, as well as any of the risks with putting off or skipping treatment.
